Eovaldi and Watkins Traded
Sunday, November 16th, 2014
Reports have surfaced that Miami has agreed to send 24-year-old starting pitcher Nathan Eovaldi and 25-year-old second baseman Derek Dietrich to the Kansas City Royals in exchange for 25-year-old minor league second baseman Logan Watkins and 27-year-old shortstop Alcides Escobar. "It's a done deal," said one executive speaking on the condition of anonymity. "I'm surprised word got around so quickly. We just signed off on this an hour ago." The deal apparently is awaiting physicals before an official announcement is made by either team.

Since joining the league, Eovaldi has compiled an ERA of 4.20 with a career record of 23-39. He has 312 strikeouts in 452.1 innings and has held opponents to a .266 batting average.
San Francisco's Rockwell Cops NL Best Manager Award
Saturday, November 15th, 2014
Joe Rockwell celebrated a successful season with the San Francisco Giants by hosting team officials and select media at a San Francisco area first-class eatery. But, when he first came to town, the 2014 National League Manager of the Year would've been lucky to be invited out for beers with the ground-crew.

"Very few people believed in our ballclub, when I got here. It just goes to show you that a bunch of talented ballplayers playing together can make any old manager a genius," a modest Rockwell joked, not fully recognizing his own stature in the baseball community.

However, baseball journalists duly noted his managerial skill as he skippered the Giants to a 100-62 record this year and a first place finish in the National League Western Division.
AL Best Skipper, Martin of Boston
Saturday, November 15th, 2014
When Andrew Martin was hired to lead the Boston Red Sox, fans were expecting improvement over the last manager. Today, flanked by team officials, Martin accepted the American League Manager of the Year Award, noting the level of passion for the Boston Red Sox.

"The biggest challenge was the fans. I don't know how many times I was asked, if I thought the club was good enough. It was as if they expected failure. It was much easier to win over the ballplayers. Slowly but surely the fans began to believe in us."

Martin led Boston to a first place finish in the American League Eastern Division. The Red Sox ended up with a 95-67 record.

Martin is looking forward to the offseason. "We're reviewing our options. You never stand still in baseball. You either get better or worse, 'cause everyone else is out to get your free agents or deal for your prospects. It's going to be a challenge." But the skipper has more than proven he is equal to the task.
